after long and painstaking research involving our best contacts at DHL Germany and within the Russian Post we finally have a few more details why in the past 1-2 months parcels to Russia have taken unusually long without ever really being lost. The reason is something even our premium business customer service of DHL could not see or even imagine.
The problem was apparently a changed policy of the airline that was contracted by DHL for forwarding the parcel containers to Russia. This airline obviously decided to postpone all parcel services in favor of passenger accommodation "for the summer months"! According to our DHL sources it was even considered an "embargo", without further notice. So even DHL Germany did not know about this while the containers were stored and not forwarded by the airline (background: usually DHL Germany must assume that a parcel will be immediately forwarded as soon as there is a container number, and they have no way to further track a parcel until it has reached Russia and is scanned there by the Russian Post, so they couldn't know this).
This means that to DHL Germany (even to top level personnel) it seemed that the parcels had successfully left Germany, while the Russian Post rightfully claimed not to have received them, even if weeks were in between. The above source for this circumstance has become apparent only just now, through our investigations.
As far as we've been informed, DHL Germany has made new and additional contracts with a different airline now, and the original airline has also started to forward the delayed parcels in the meantime. So we're very optimistic that in the next few days and weeks all delayed parcels to Russia will appear on the screen again and will hopefully be delivered successfully a little later.
We're sorry for any inconvenience and hope for your understanding that this is nothing we could influence even with our extraordinarily good and effective relations with DHL Germany and the Russian Post, as this was so far unknown even to top level service staff of DHL.
